Information has reached the wise bird that the Western Region Commissioner of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) Commissioner Zainab Umu Moseray has issued a very strong warning that the mistakes that took place in the last general elections in 2023 will not repeat itself again.
She made this statement at the review and validation of framework and policy of the Commission.
She described the new framework strategic commitment as safeguard for electoral integrity and restoring public confidence in Sierra Leone’s democratic process.
The program was supported by the European Union (EU) through the International Institution for democracy and Electoral Assistance.
“The framework is more than a document, it is a call to action,” Madam Moseray declared.
“We cannot allow the errors of the past to haunt the democratic process in the country again,” she stressed.
She however urged all political parties, civil society organizations and development partners to play an active role in implementing the policy, noting that no single institution can handle electoral risks in isolation.
“We must build unity, ensure transparency and plan with foresight,” she added
Madam Moseray commended the EU, International IDEA and the Electoral Commission of South Africa for their contained partnership while reaffirming (ECSL) readiness to embrace reform in preparation for 2028.
On that note, the bird sounded the views of many people in respect of what the Electoral Commissioner said about the 2028 elections.
In response, many of them expressed pessimism about the Commissioner’s pronouncement, claiming that the present arrangements at the Commission are enough for one to speculate that the 2028 electoral process will be rigged.
On the issue of the implementation of the tripartite recommendations, they also expressed frustrations, alleging that the implementation process is yet to take off the ground as expected, and in fact, not going the way it should be, accusing the President to have gone ahead with the appointment of an acting Commissioner in contradiction of the tripartite agreement.
They claimed the singular action clearly shows the level preparedness to rig the elections.
The question the people asked was if the ECSL will stand by what they said?
The bird is monitoring closely to see what will be the outcome of the 2028 elections.
