Tuesday, 7th October 2025, marked a sad day in the history of Kambia District, as one of its astute leaders Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma tragically lost his life in a fatal accident along the Freetown-Masiaka Highway.
His untimely death has left many heartbroken, particularly members of the All People’s Congress (APC), fellow Parliamentarians, family, friends, supporters, and sympathizers of the party.
In response, the opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara extended his deepest condolences and expressed profound grief over the passing of someone he described as instrumental in his personal and political journey for decades.
He recalled that over the past 15 years, Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma had been more than just a colleague, that he had been a true friend. Their relationship was marked by mutual respect, trust, and loyalty, he added.
He described late Hon. Dura Koroma as a man free of envy and gossip, someone who stood by him unwaveringly, even during his most difficult moments.
He explained that the late gentleman never questioned his decisions. Even when he made mistakes and admitted them, he didn’t argue he simply accepted and moved forward.
He further highlighted that late Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma believed in his leadership to the extent that he would not make decisions without first seeking his approval. He emphasized that his loyalty was steadfast. He was a dedicated leader who always wished the best for him.
Reflecting on their days back in university, the Whip remembered how he helped many students rise to leadership positions. While many of those individuals eventually distanced themselves or betrayed him, Ernest remained by his side resilient, loyal, and ever supportive.
He narrated that while others doubted ‘my leadership,’ he had strong conviction in my capabilities. His belief in him was unshakable, and his unwavering support was a constant source of strength.
He went on to describe the late Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma’s loyalty as top-notch to the point where anyone who had issues with him would also fall out of favour with late Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma who would stand firmly by his side.
In an emotional reflection, opposition Chief Whip asked himself, “Who will replace Hon. Ernest Dura Koroma? Who will stand by me the way he did? Who can fill the void he has left behind?”
In conclusion, the Chief Whip encouraged himself and others to find comfort in prayer, as nothing can bring back the deceased. He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and urged all patriots, especially those who may have had differences with the late MP to forgive him reminding them that no human is perfect.
Rest in peace, hero.
