The wise bird has noticed with disgust that the negative attitude and behaviour of certain individuals particularly in public positions of trust is undeniably responsible for the backwardness of this tiny republic, which is endowed with numerous natural resources. These people are nothing more than enemies of state.
According to information reaching the bird from the National Revenue Authority (NRA), a scheme involving the coalition of certain staff with external actors are reportedly in a shady deal with some commercial banks to create mayhem in the financial sector of the Authority.
According to the report, the Commissioner-General has not only initiated a full-scale internal investigation but has made an official report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for more investigations.
The report further states that, the Authority is conducting a comprehensive review of its internal system so as to properly ensure that, appropriate reforms are instituted to safeguard government’s revenue.
In addition, it is reported that taxpayers have also been reminded that all cash payments to the Authority must not exceed (NLe50,000) fifty thousand leones and such payment threshold must be paid by crossed cheque.
The most respected animal was very much unhappy when he got the news that, some individuals are bent on killing the state’s revenue generation base by way of converting the much needed funds to their own personal pockets.
The bird will be very much happy to see that the internal investigation instituted by the Chief Commissioner yields good fruits.
The bird however sounded the views of some members of the public and they expressed dismay over the attitude of some public workers who according to them are always trying to beat the system to their own advantage.
These incessant criminal activities are the very reasons why Sierra Leone has remained at the foot of development index.
This time round the Authority should set what the people referred to as precedent for others to see.
An old adage says, ‘kill dog bifo dog eye mek e no say die dae.’
The bird will be waiting to see whether the outcome of the investigation will be fruitful for the betterment of Mama Slone.
Bravo Madam Commissioner!
