Thirty-seven year old businessman Ibrahim Sorie Koroma made another appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown on a count charge to wit larceny contrary to section 2 of the larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, on 8th September 2025 at House of Parliament in the western area of Freetown, stole one black leather bag containing the sum of ten thousand United States dollars, physical cash of four thousand and sixty leones Watts power bank, one Samsung mobile phone and assorted items equivalent to the total value of two hundred and sixty thousand five hundred and sixty Leone s(260,560) property of John Melvin Kuminah.
When the charge was read and explained to the defendant, no plea taken.
Sergeant 9939 Mohamed Lahai led prosecution witness number one John Melvin Kuminah a businessman said he knows the defendant in the matter. He recalled on 8th September 2025, on the above date he was at Parliament when something transpired between him and the defendants. The witness said they were having a section in Parliament and the Speaker of Parliament was there. He said he left his hand bag on one of the chairs at Parliament and went for lunch. He said when he returned within few minutes, he did not see his bag on the chair. He said the bag contains ten thousand United States dollars, power bank, GT Bank and Ecobank identity cards, national identity card, NASSIT card and other items equivalent to 260,560. The witness said he reported the matter to the security at Parliament. He said when they went through the CCTV footage they saw the accused taking the bag away. He said went to the Criminal Investigation Department Cid headquarters at Pademba Road in Freetown and reported the matter. The CCTV footage was supplied to the police and he later made statement to the police.
The witness was cross examined by the defendant.
Meanwhile Magistrate Jah refused bail and sent the defendant to the male correctional facility in Freetown and adjourned the matter to 30th October 2025.
