Hon. Ali Bayoh has recently awarded scholarships to 44 school going pupils in the Tunkia and Nomo Chiefdoms respectfully.
The Parliamentarian, representing Kenema District also provided cash prizes to deserving primary school pupils. His gesture targeted 24 primary schools in both Chiefdoms, looking at those who scored the highest and second highest grades in the recent National Primary School Examination (NPSE) in each of the schools that has examination code to write the exams.
The hard working MP used the sum total of NLe17, 000 in the process. He also provided the sum of NLe5000 as transport refund to each school head teachers of the various schools.
Even though the core mandates of Members of Parliament are representation, enactment of laws and performing oversights, yet, they go the extra mile in making sure that developments are brought to the doorsteps of their people.
Making the presentation, the lawmaker said that he didn’t promise anything during his campaign period but has deemed it fit to start from the education angle since it is the heartbeat of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio.
He further stated that the human capital development is a must for the benefit of communities and the nation at large and therefore have no option but to prioritize it under his leadership.
There was joy and celebration everywhere by the recipients and their families confessing that it has never happened in their life time. They said the monies will go a long way in ensuring that school materials are provided to augment the Free Quality Education.
He continued that giving cash prizes to the deserving pupils, will serve as a motivation to other pupils in that level to be serious and work hard.
He assured the pupils and their parents of his continuous support to education and other developmental projects in his constituency.
Another development, Hon. Bayoh has deemed it prudent is to extend similar support to West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) pupils by buying entrance forms for 30 candidates who have requirements and ready for admissions into any University in Sierra Leone.
He said that the cost of buying the forms has been a burden which he wants to remove from both the parents and the intending students for this academic year.
He stressed that the aim of his intervention is to augment the Free Quality School Education which is the baby of President Julius Maada Bio.
The occasion attracted many people at Ahmadiyya Secondary school in Gegbwema Town, Tunkia Chiefdom including pupils, parents, local authorities, Chiefdom ONS representative, SLPP party executives and the media.
According to the Chairman of the programme Victor Musa who doubles as SLPP Constituency 013 chairman, they conducted a thorough survey in order to get the best performing pupils in the Tunkia Chiefdom.
