The Sierra Leone Police have declared one Ibrahim Kanu, a resident of Kissy community in the capital city of Freetown wanted for his failure to honour an invitation sent to him on 10 July, 2021 following reports that he was caught having an affair with his male gay partner in his bid to legalize homosexual relationship within the Kissy environs and Freetown at large.
Rumour abound that Ibrahim was in relationship with a male friend which forced his parents to marry a wife for him to save the family from embarrassment as they all hailed from a very strong religious background and living in a Muslim dominated community which abhors the practice of same sex because Islam condemns it as sinful and unholy. Report say, Ibrahim’s father was a reputable elder in their community prior to his death.
However, Ibrahim’s strong relationship with his male partner made him to lost focus to his wife even though they had a child. Reports say, because of his lack of attention to the wife led to frequent quarrelling which eventually led to their separation. The woman is said to have left her matrimonial home and stayed with her elder sister in another community, but whenever she wants to visit her ex-husband she will use the child as means to get to him.
It is reported that it appeared he was not in his right frame of mind when he was acting in such manner to his wife, that he felt he lost his sexual appetite for women including his own wife.
Suspicious of his strange moves, his wife became curious to know what was responsible.
One day, sources revealed she took his cell phone and searched it and saw disturbing evidences of photos and videos of her husband and his male gay partner.
The sources further revealed that the woman threatened to expose him, viewing it as reason for her abandonment.
The report alleged that Ibrahim begged his wife not to do so, insisting that if she does that his life will be in great danger as the country’s law prohibits such practices, but the woman promised to keep it secret.
Meanwhile, it is revealed that Ibrahim ran out of luck when he fell ill with severe stomach ache that he was unable to move.
One day, according to our sources, the woman decided to visit him at home to express her sympathy but coincidentally, his male gay partner also paid similar visit that same day and they were all with him in the room.
Reports added that when his male gay partner got ready to go he got carried away by his close affection with his sick friend and told him “I love you” as farewell forgetting that his wife was in the room.
Having heard what his husband’s friend had expressed, she and other two people in the room yelled in surprise and condemnation and stated “Subana lai” (meaning God forbids in Islam). As if what he did was that warranted the women’s reaction was not enough, the man also went to the extent of kissing his sick partner which led to serious quarrelling between him and the other people.
Reports added that people were however able to settle the matter and let the man go.
Report went on that Ibrahim however dodged Police invitation and find somewhere to hide but a bench warrant was prepared for him after being declared wanted.
But one day, he ran out of luck and was arrested and his captors gave him a thorough beating but managed to escape with the help of some close friends.
Sources close to Ibrahim alleged that he now fears to return to the country given that his life will be in danger.
Sierra Leone’s constitutional law does not tolerate same sex relationships and those who have been found wanting for their clandestine involvements into such acts have faced secret murder.
