The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have presented its Mid-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) Budget plan for 2026-2028, totaling Le576,023,180, at the Ministry of Finance Hall, on George Street, in Freetown.
The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, David Fortune, emphasized the importance of security services, noting that the Ministry ensures accountable security provision.
He highlighted the need for financial support to maintain police operations, including visibility, emergency response, community policing, and daily patrols.
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, expressed delight in presenting the well-planned budget, aligned with the SLP’s Strategic Development Plan.
He thanked his team and emphasized public safety and security as the SLP’s key aim. He called on the government and Ministry of Finance to support their operations.
ACP Alieu Turay, the SLP’s Director of Support Services, stressed that security is crucial for development and urged support for the budget. He outlined the SLP’s mission, vision, and key functions, including protecting life and property, maintaining law and order, and upholding human rights.
The budget highlights key plans for 2026, including the rehabilitation and upgrade of the Sierra Leone Police Headquarters aimed to enhance service delivery, recruitment of 1,000 police personnel, acquisition of 35 4×4 vehicles to support nationwide patrols, upgrading of the SLP garment factory to a modern uniform garment production industry, and the provision of camouflage uniforms for Operations Support Division (OSD) personnel.
The Director of Budget Services, Mr. Jah, appreciated the detailed presentation of ACP Alieu Turay, on behalf of the SLP, and promised careful consideration. The budget was debated by financial analysts, civil society, NGOs, media, and the public, who applauded the SLP’s good work and supported their budget request.
