One of the heavy weights of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) female Members of Parliament, Hon. Umu Pyne has been regarded as a transformative leader in enhancing education.
As a former teacher with a great passion for education, she has contributed immensely to the educational sector translation in Sierra Leone.
Hon. Pyne was the first female MP in the Chambers of Parliament to raise serious concern regarding the grabbing of lands designated for educational purposes.
One among the recent issues she raised was the alarming and rampant selling of lands especially those belonging to the Muslim Agency School situated at Kissy.
She also spoke on the sale of R.E.C Primary School compound at Kossoh Town along Jui highway, where a businessman is constructing shops, a development that our foresight MP frowned at.
The female MP’s generous contributions in service deliveries in education are testaments to her commitment to the well-being and progress of our motherland’s transformations.
Her district appreciates and values such leadership whose goals is to ensure her constituents live in harmony and focuses their energies on making meaningful contributions to nation building.
For strategically pursuing the rampant grabbing of educational property by foreign and local business individuals stands as a bold step and targeted reforms in education sector to expand access, address challenges and improve infrastructure as well as enhance the quality of education in the country.
Hon Umu Pyne believes that such advocacy for a strong educational property to be protected stands as a testament for inclusive development and shared prosperity is much desired whilst building the necessary human capital and to foster progress.
Her mere frequent engagements are crucial and of great fruition for implementations of the Free Quality Education transformative agenda of His Excellency the President of our Republic, Dr. Julius Maada Bio.
Hon Pyne’s alarm on the need to stop selling educational lands is to ensure that no vulnerable persons are left behind as President Julius Maada Bio’s administration continues with the journey to transforming educational sector in addition to other sectors.
In an interview, she emphasized:
“As an MP, a former teacher, and a social worker with a blend of local and international experience, I strongly support that the president’s vision for a functional educational system remains a major catalyst towards the socio-economic development of Sierra Leone and therefore, should not be allowed to be undermined.”
