Some Sierra Leoneans have attributed the much-publicized Human Capital Development agenda of the ruling SLPP government as nothing more than a scam.
During the tenure of the previous APC government, university fees were heavily subsidized to ease the financial burden on parents.
At the time, the government covered 75% of public university fees, leaving only 25% for students and their families to pay.
Against this backdrop, opposition Chief Whip, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, has continued to expose what he describes as the nefarious actions of the current administration, accusing them of plunging the country further into poverty.
He noted that since taking office, the SLPP government has systematically dismantled many of the progressive policies implemented by the former government.
According to him, the current government has drastically reduced education subsidies and introduced an alarming fee hike nearly a 100% increase making higher education unaffordable for many poor families. He attributed these increments to what he termed as maladministration and a lack of empathy for the suffering citizens.
In his closing remarks, Hon. AKK stated that the government has not only failed to deliver on its promises but has instead deepened the hardship faced by ordinary Sierra Leoneans. He warned that citizens should brace themselves for more unforeseen challenges, as there seems to be no intention from the government to alleviate their burdens.
