For the first time in the history of Sierra Leone, the Adama Team Foundation-US-UK-SL and Ghana, a household name organization has successfully held one day ‘awareness raising campaign on Breast Cancer’ for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the country at the organization’s headquarters at 68 Bai Bureh Road Texaco, New Road, in the east part of Freetown on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
The unwavering humanitarian programme brought together dedicated PWDs, gender and progressive journalists across the country.
ATF-SL is not just a name but a humanitarian organization that strongly believes in the social welfare of PWDs over the years.
The positive event impacts the lives of persons with special needs on healthcare and prevention.
Ibrahim Karim Bangura, aka journalist Tanko, Director of Communications, ATF-SL, said the hallmark showcased a positive awareness on breast cancer and prevention, especially for both women and men, because men are also likely to be affected even though the possibility is just 1%.
“We are delighted for the collaboration with the Well-Woman Breast Cancer Clinic workshop today,” he stated. ATF-SL was established in 2001 with the objective of helping persons with special needs including the deaf and deaf in education, skills, and healthcare facilities amidst the sad challenges PWDs are facing in the country, he explained.
Yeabu Kanu, one of the affected victims of breast cancer, called on ATF-SL and other donor partners for support.
“I have bee strongly affected by breast cancer over the years. I need support from humanitarian organizations like ATF-SL and others,” she said.
Mohamed Kamara, a beneficiary, said the workshop aimed to bring solutions to persons with disabilities, describing ATF-SL’s move as a significant milestone in the achievements of vulnerable PWDs in Sierra Leone.
In her response, the CEO of the Adama Team Foundation, Dr. Adama Vandy Konneh said the goal of ATF-SL is to aid persons with disabilities in Sierra Leone at all levels despite the systematic increase of challenges within the Commission, urging that the government creates a disability ministry that would properly impact and responsible for day-to-day management of PWDs in the country.
