In a heartfelt act of charity, Lawyer Joseph Papa-Lee Kabia, commonly known as Lawyer Kabia in honor of his beloved mother, Mary Koroma, has launched a philanthropic initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable groups across Freetown.
On Saturday, September 6th, 2025, the BABY-LOVE Foundation for the Needy donated school supplies and learning materials to dozens of pupils in the Wellington community, Freetown
The donated items included school bags, books, pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, and other educational essentials.
This kind gesture aligns primarily with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education. SDG 4 aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Providing school supplies and supporting vulnerable children helps improve access to education, reduce disparities, and foster learning environments conducive to student success.
Additionally, it touches on SDG 1: No Poverty, by supporting children from impoverished backgrounds, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by helping bridge the gap for marginalized groups. Overall, such acts of charity contribute to building more equitable and sustainable communities.
Before handing over the items, Lawyer Kabia shared that his motivation stems from the love and generosity of his mother, who was a lifelong giver. “I was inspired to establish this foundation on the day my mother passed away,” he explained. “It is my way of giving back to society what I would have given her if she were alive.”
He reflected on his mother’s sacrifices, recounting how she struggled to raise him and his siblings and ensured they received an education. “My mother fought hard to provide for us, and her love for God and her family was unwavering,” he said. “I am doing this in her memory, out of love and gratitude.”
Lawyer Kabia urged parents not to sell the donated items but to allow their children to use them for their intended purpose—learning and growth. He also called on those who have the means but are hesitant to give, emphasizing that life is fleeting. “All what we have is vanity because we shall all die someday,” he remarked. “Kindness and generosity are what truly matter.”
Aunty Christiana, who knew Lawyer Kabia from his childhood, recalled how his mother helped her when she was without accommodation and how she worked tirelessly to educate her children. She praised the late woman’s devotion to God and her dedication to her family, praying for the success of the foundation and the entire family.
Stakeholders present at the event lauded Lawyer Kabia for his generosity and kindness, urging him to continue his good work. Mr. Pit Kabia, a community leader, commented, “Lawyer Kabia has set a remarkable example for our community by thinking positively and helping those in need.”
One of the beneficiaries, young Miniratu O. Sesay expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Foundation. “I am so happy for this gift,” she said. “I will use these supplies to go to school and learn better.”
This act of compassion underscores the enduring spirit of giving and community support, inspiring others to follow suit and make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
