A Police officer, Augustine Tamba Saffa and his girlfriend Isha Conteh have been sent to the High Court for further trial for being in possession of over 700 wraps of cannabis sativa.
They were committed to the High Court on Monday 27 October 2025 by the Principal Magistrate of the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1, Magistrate Mustapha Briama Jah.
Both defendants were arraigned before the court on two count charges of possession of a prohibited drug and dealing with prohibited drug without lawful authority.
The indictment states that officer Saffa on Monday 1st September 2025 at Yakama Street, New Site, Kenema in the Eastern Province of Sierra Leone was found in possession of seven hundred and ninety nine (799) wraps of cannabis sativa without lawful authority.
The indictment further states that the second defendant Isha Conteh on the same day and place was found in possession of three parcels of cannabis sativa without lawful authority.
Before committal, Magistrate Jah states that he has looked at the evidence before him and he was satisfied that the prosecution proved their case beyond reasonable doubt to warrant committal of the matter to the High Court. He said the prosecution called witnesses whose testimonies corroborated and the wraps of cannabis sativa were tendered by the prosecution for it to form part of their case.
In that regard, officer Saffa and girlfriend Isha were sent to the High Court for further trial.
They were asked by the Magistrate if they would like to explain their own side of the story at the High Court to which they responded in the positive and said they would like to call witnesses to testify on their behalf.
At the end, they appended their signatures at the committal form and were sent to the male and female correctional facilities until being called at the High Court.
