Martin Sellu, Gbassay Swarray, Foday Sallu, John Bangalie alias Boika, Joseph Gilamaja Kamara alias Shine and Foday Alhassan Sesay made another appearance before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah of Pademba Road Court No.1 in Freetown on five count charges to wit conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravation, conspiracy to murder, robbery with aggravation, murder and receiving stolen goods contrary to section 33 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, on a date between 1st August to the 29th August 2025 Bo City in the Southern province in the Republic of Sierra Leone, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and fifth defendants conspired together and with other persons unknown to commit robbery with aggravation
In count two, on the same date and place, the accused conspired together and with other persons unknown to commit murder. In count three, it’s alleged that on 30th August 2025 at Buma III section in Kenema city in Eastern Province of Sierra Leone, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th defendants being armed with a locally made single barrel gun robbed reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu of one grey Lenovo laptop computer property of late Fr. Amadu valued at three hundred and fifty United States dollars and the physical cash of five thousand leones and at the time or immediately before or immediately after such robbery and used personal violence to kill the said Reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu.
Count four further stated that on 30th August 2025, at Buma III section in Kenema city in the Eastern Province of the Republic of Sierra Leon, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th defendants murdered Reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu.
In count five, it’s alleged that the accused on 29th August 2025 in Waterloo in the western area rural of Freetown, the 6th defendant did receive one grey Lenovo computer laptop valued three hundred and fifty United States dollars property of Paul Allan Moses Jones knowing same to have been stolen.
After the charges were read and explained to the defendants, no plea was taken and the 6th defendant pleaded not guilty.
Chief Superintendent of Police Tommy B. Zizer Esq. led in prosecution witness number one Inspector B. Foday attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters at Pademba Road, Freetown. He recalled on the above date Rev. Father Michael Thomas Lamboi made a report of robbery and murder at the church house in Kenema.
Upon having the report, himself including Detective Sergeant 922 Lamina headed by the Regional head visited the scene of crime. He said at the scene, one Michael Musa Foday identified the deceased Reverend Father Augustine Dauda Amadu was lying in his bathroom motionless.
Detective Sergeant 9667 Bangura S. S. the Scene of Crime officer examined the body and took snapshots.
Those photos were developed into pictures and were tendered to form part of the records.
They then conveyed the body to the Kenama Government Hospital and later took statements from complainant and witnesses.
While they were taking their statements, the Operations Officer brought in defendant No.1.
On 1st September, 2025, he had cause to interview defendant number one cautioned him in Krio the statement was obtained in English which he admitted it to be true and correct by affixing his right hand thumbprint. The statement of the 1st defender was also produced and tendered in court to form part of the court records.
On 2nd September he said he conveyed the deceased to 34 Military Hospital for autopsy. During the statements and after he said the report on the cause of death was submitted to his superior and the cause of death was also tendered in court to form part of the court records.
On 3rd September 2025, the witness said he got an information from Bo Regional office that they have made some arrests in which one of them was the 1st defendant Martin made mention of during his statement.
Upon receiving the information led by the regional crime office, east, he said they went to Bo and was able to identify defendant No.2. He said he obtained statements from the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th defendants which were read to them and they accepted it to be true and correct by affixing their right hand thumbprint separately, he concluded
The witness was cross examined by the defendants that when these files were sent him he went to the scene to investigate.
When the 5th accused asked him if he, Joseph G. Kamara was part of the killing, the witness answered in the affirmative, given the evidence adduced. Meanwhile, the accused denied the allegations.
When the sixth defendant asked if the witnessed conducted a search in his place of business, he replied yes, noting that he met other materials and were all used ones, noting that some of those materials were alleged to have been stolen.
Meanwhile Magistrate Jah refused bail and sent all defendants to the male correctional facility in Freetown and matter adjourned to 29th September 2025.
