As Bra Parrot continues to turn the pages of the Auditor-General’s report on the Accounts of Sierra Leone. The brave bird was very quick to turn to pages 94 and 95 of the report.
On that same page i.e. 94 the brave bird saw a sub-heading titled “Assessment of Service Delivery”.
According to the report, the brave bird noticed that, the District Health Management Team (DHMT) was and still facing acute shortage of water supply and electricity.
The report went further to say that DHMT did not have adequate office equipment such as laptops, printers, scanners and many more.
Bra Parrot also noticed that, the Public Health Unit (PHUs) visited by the audit team revealed that the units did not have generators or solar panels to supply electricity. The report went further to say that, water supply was and still a very serious challenge in the PHUs as there were some PHUs with faulty hand-dug pumps.
In the report, the brave bird noticed that the District Medical store in Bo was and is still constrained with vehicle for the distribution of drugs and medical consumables to the 147 PHUs and health centres in the District.
Bra Parrot also noticed from the report that the District Health Management Team (DHMT) is also constrained with vehicles and motorbikes to enhance effective operations in the Southern Region.
According to the report, eleven (11) motor vehicles and several motorbikes are all faulty. On the same page Bra Parrot noticed from the report that quarterly drug supplies were not received on time from the central medical store through the District medical store for delivery to the various public health units PHUs. Bra Parrot also noticed that, public health units PHUs far away from Kailahun District are constrained with ambulance facilities for referral cases due to their hard-to-reach locations.
The report also states that medical laboratories in the public health units PHUs were not equipped with re-agent and other medical equipment.
