Amidst the economic crisis in the country, government of Sierra Leone has announced the disbursement of $893,000 USD as a support to the national football team through the National Sports Authority (NSA). The help comes ahead of the Leone Stars forthcoming matches against Djibouti and Burkina Faso in June this year.
Such a substantial finance boost was revealed during a press conference held by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of NSA, Emmanuel Saffa Abdulia, gave details that the funds will cover expenditures for a 44-member delegation, and they include 24 players, technical staff, and officials. Leone Stars will clash with Djibouti on the 5th June and Burkina Faso on Monday, 10th June in the group stage of the 2024 World Cup campaign. But citizens are dismay with the poor performance of Leone Stars in all international qualifications over the years.
