The Ministry of Transport and Aviation in collaboration with the Motor Driver’s Union, the security sector and other key stakeholders in the transport sector have reopened the corridors for all vehicles to ply.
In its press release, the Transport ministry announced the temporary opening of the East and West corridors to allow the free movement of vehicles and passengers across the city.
According to the statement, the intervention was triggered by the inadequate number of Waka Fine Buses that should cater for the needs of the increasing population of Freetown.
The Ministry went further stated that the temporary opening of the routes is intended to ease congestion, reduce travel delays, and minimize transportation burden on commuters and businesses.
The release added: “Effective Wednesday 5th November 2025, the East-West transit routes will operate under carefully managed traffic arrangements as follows, commercial vehicles: buses, poda podas and tricycles (Kekehs) are now allowed to use the east and west corridors throughout the day.”
Meanwhile, the release stressed that commercial motorbikes are not allowed to use the Central Business District (CBD); that the Waka Fine bus stops are to be exclusively used by Waka Fine buses only.
However, the SLRSA and other transport stakeholders are to engage in massive sensitization campaigns in all the parks on the current traffic laws and regulations.
