After weeks of mounting anticipation among party loyalists, the gates of the Pa Demba Road Correctional Centre swung open yesterday to release two prominent members of the All People’s Congress (APC) — Alpha Sheriff, popularly known as “APC Sheriff,” and Alhaji S. Fofanah. Their release ignited waves of jubilation, not only at the prison grounds but also across APC circles nationwide.
The two men, who had been held in detention under circumstances their supporters described as politically motivated, were met by throngs of cheering well-wishers. Supporters chanted party slogans, waved flags, and embraced the freed men in a spontaneous celebration of what many hailed as “a victory for justice and resilience.”
At the heart of this outcome, was the persistent advocacy of Hon. Chernor Maju Bah widely known as Hon. Chericoco whose behind-the-scenes negotiations, public defense, and unwavering pressure were repeatedly credited by both family and party members as the decisive factor in securing the men’s release.
Speaking to journalists outside the facility, several APC stalwarts described the event as proof of Hon. Chericoco’s steadfast commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and welfare of APC members in the face of political adversity.
“Chericoco did not rest until this happened. He fought on all fronts, quietly and publicly. Today, we celebrate not just the release of our brothers, but the kind of leadership that stands with you through the storm,” one senior party official remarked.
The emotional homecoming scenes included prayers of gratitude to the Almighty, hugs from tearful family members, and renewed calls for unity and perseverance within the APC. Celebrations have since spread to various parts of the country, with social media flooded by images and videos of supporters marking the moment.
For many within the APC, the day underscored a deeper message that persistence, solidarity, and strategic leadership remain critical tools in the fight for political justice.
