The Leader of opposition in Parliament Hon. Abdul Kargbo has accused heads MDAs of violating women’s rights in offices.
“I want the First Lady to bring progressive laws that have to do with women and girls.
“Some bosses in different workplace would touch women waists [having sex with them] before promoting them in offices,”
Hon. Abdul Kargbo made the submissions during the debate on the approval of the Prohibition of Child marriage Act 2024 in the Chambers of Parliament.
According to Hon. Kargbo lots of women are going through bad experiences in offices.
As a result, he advocates for more laws to be passed that seek to protect not only girls but women in workplaces.
He said the prohibition of child marriage act is one among the best acts that will see women and girls being liberated in the country.
He said he had seen girls who have three children before age 18 but with the prohibition of child marriage act, he believes; it will ensure that girls who’re suffering from serious violations by men will get a peace of mind.
Hon. Kargbo further said that he had also seen a woman tortured by his husband and ended up becoming blind and was later dumped out because of her blindness.
The opposition leader thanked Hon. Mariama Zombo, Hon. Katherine Tarawally and the First Lady to push for solutions for women and girls to progress in society.
He urged girls to work towards their academic pursuits in life rather than engaging on activities that are retrogressive.
“This is one among the best bills that irrespective of one’s political affiliation should support,” he said.
He urged for a robust popularization of the bill to the public, he said.
The opposition leader said parliament, this time round, should be known for passing good laws.
He pointed out that the only way to put an end to early marriage is through legislation.
